Recipes for allergy sufferers online
Foods Matter’s new freefrom recipe
section can now boast over 250 tried and tested freefrom
recipes the vast majority of which are gluten, wheat and dairy
free and many of which are also egg, soya, nightshade and nut
free!
Over 200 of the recipes come from the Foods
Matter archives and have been developed by Michelle
Berriedale-Johnson, Foods Matter’s editor and well known
cookery author. Starting way back in the 1980s when her own
family were diagnosed as dairy intolerant, Michelle, at that
point a food historian and historical caterer, has been cooking
‘freefrom’ for over 20 years and has a number of
freefrom cookery books to her name.
All the Foods Matter recipes, which include
everything from exotica like Freefrom Prawns with Coconut Milk
or FreeFrom Quinoa with Beetroot and Red Cabbage to old
favourites such as Freefrom Meatballs in Gravy with Broccoli
Mash or Freefrom Blackberry and Apple Brown Betty, have been
tried and tested and are all coded for allergens so that site
visitors can see at a glance which recipe will be suitable for
their diet.
Apart from the Foods Matter recipes the
site includes recipes from well known freefrom cookery writers
and chefs, and from freefrom manufacturers many of whom spend a
great deal of effort and ingenuity devising recipes for their
products – often inviting top chefs to apply their skills
to the challenges of cooking gluten, dairy or egg free.
The FreeFrom Recipe site form part of the
much larger Foods Matter FreeFromFood site which includes links
to hundreds of freefrom manufacturers and retailers, reviews of
all the new freefrom products on the market in 2009, the
tasting/judgings of the freefrom products entered for the
FreeFrom Food Awards 2009, articles on freefrom food
manufacture and a new directory of freefrom places to eat out.
The Freefrom food site, in turn, forms part
of the even larger Foods Matter site – the web’s
fastest growing resource for allergy, intolerance and freefrom
living.
